Chai Spiced Oatmeal

Winter Oatmeal Ideas

During the cold winter months, consider starting your day with a warm, filling breakfast.  One fun way to add some comforting seasonal flavors to your oatmeal is by first steeping bags of tea or cider spices in the water that you’ll use to cook the oats.  Top the oats off with some chopped nuts and milk and serve with a side of healthy protein and you’ll be more than ready to face the day’s freezing temps!

Chai Spiced Oatmeal

Ingredients:

2-3 cups water (depending on how thick you like your oats)

2-3 bags of chai tea

1 cup steel cut oats

1/8 tsp kosher salt (optional)

For serving: I suggest toping it with 1 oz milk, 1 tsp honey, 1 Tbsp chopped almonds, and a dash of ground cinnamon

Instructions:

Bring the water to a boil in a medium saucepan over high heat.  Remove from heat, add the tea bags, and steep covered for 3-5 minutes.

Remove the tea bags and stir in the oats and salt and return to a boil.  Reduce heat to low and simmer stirring occasionally until oats are tender and desired consistency has been reached (about 20 minutes)

Serve immediately topped with desired ingredients.
